Subject: Continuous Clean Power at ~
$10/MWh — New Energy Prime Directive
Elon,
I’m Ray Lugo, CEO of the International Space Station National Laboratory and former NASA Center Director. In
addition to my work advancing space-based research and technology, I serve on the Board of Ion Power Group
(IPG), where I’ve had a front-row seat to what I believe is one of the most consequential clean-energy
breakthroughs of this century.
Ion Power Group has developed a novel advanced-materials platform capable of harvesting electrical energy
directly from Earth’s Global Electric Circuit—continuously, day or night, in any weather, and in virtually any location
on the planet. Early prototype systems, supported by empirical measurements and multiple independent,
PhD-level studies, point to a credible pathway to producing electricity at approximately
$10/MWh. The system is
currently at TRL-4, with engineering eorts and data maturity trending solidly toward TRL-6.
What makes this technology so transformative is not only its ability to generate clean, uninterrupted power, but
also the downstream capabilities it unlocks. IPG’s platform can operate as a 24/7 green hydrogen source, produce
pure water as a natural by-product, and is inherently hardened—demonstrating resilience even to EMP-type
environments. At full global deployment, modeling indicates the system could oset up to
1.3 billion metric
tons of CO₂ annually, while simultaneously strengthening the world’s energy, water, and hydrogen
infrastructure.
Importantly, the benets are not limited to terrestrial use. Because IPG’s architecture produces power
independent of solar input, it aligns naturally with the demands of lunar and Martian surface operations, where
dust, darkness, and extreme environments can constrain traditional power systems. The company holds
international patents and will soon deploy Phase 5B LCOE validation with Mississippi State University, where
LCOE curves, yield characteristics, and performance models will be independently validated. A full investor and
technical brieng deck is available for your review, plus multiple PhD reviews.
If you’re open to a short videoconference, I would welcome the opportunity to share how a collaboration between
Ion Power Group and your teams could accelerate progress in energy, water, and hydrogen production—on Earth
today, and across future interplanetary missions where reliable, autonomous power will be essential.
